SMALL STATIONS PRESS
Welcome to the homepage of SMALL STATIONS PRESS, a publishing house based in London and Sofia, devoted to publishing quality literature in English and Bulgarian. SMALL STATIONS PRESS is the project of Jonathan Dunne and Tsvetanka Elenkova.
The name SMALL STATIONS PRESS derives from Tsvetanka Elenkova's poem Small Stations in her collection The Seventh Gesture (in Jonathan Dunne's translation):
Like shadows we must be, stretching under the street lamps or under the slanting rays of the sun, starting from the feet but also from above – we are our own way. We must share the light but not stop, go on. Not the end but the direction is important. And when we sit under a vine, whose dappled shade so resembles the dawn and dusk, birdsong, a dog’s bark, it must be a stone along the way, where we sit and rest. Such stories of life and death! The arrival is like those small stations at which the train stops for no more than three minutes.
Trains usually have little or no time to stop at small stations, which is why we have given this name to our publishing house. We aim to stop at those places other editors don't usually have time for.
Our emblem is Archangel Gabriel - the messenger of God, who carries out his Word, the archetypal translator.
